We received customer order of 36pcs muffins, when customer pick up near Sungai Nibong, she told us that she came from Tanjung Bungah. We are surprised! Customer came so far away just for the muffin.
Another customer requested us to decorate the muffin for her friend’s birthday. We don’t have the experience to do the decorating since muffin more often eat fresh on its own. Anyway, customer requested, so we did simple decoration and arranged the muffin into heart shaped.
The good news is we received another two kindergarten that willing to take the one month trial of the Kindergarten Package (http://www.smilax.com.my/kindergarten-packages). Teacher told us that the kids liked our muffin.
At the beginning of August, a caterer rang us to order 200 pcs mini muffins . The muffins are for USM Graduate Convocation. We were proud of providing the muffin to our former university occasion.

Again, we got a customer requested to decorate the muffins with basket for birthday. This time we determined to create a much beautiful decorated muffin to satisfy the customer. With our hard work, we succeed to create a basket of birthday muffin as our desire http://www.smilax.com.my/birthday-packages. Customer satisfies with that and even bought the basket together (as initial the basket was not for sold).
More customers contact us for ordering. We get good response from customer, such as, less sweet, delicious ... We appreciate your support and wish you all will continue support us!

June - New Knowledge
We received an order for wedding party this month. The quantity was 280 pieces of mini muffins and 12 big muffins. We wished to give her a surprise on her big day. We planned to use baskets for the muffins. We didn’t have any knowledge about decorating. We put effort to get the information in decorating the baskets; asking the expert, surfing internet and so on. We went to the particular shop to buy the decorating material. We asked the shop owner about the technique of decorating the basket. We observed the decorated basket around to get an idea also.
After that, we started to squeeze our brain to come up the idea to turn the stuff we bought into a nice decorated basket. We put on and off the ribbon, flower and clothes on the basket. We tried several times. Finally, we came out a nice decorated basket.
Our initiative of doing this was to bring the happiness for our customer. But, we gained the skill of decoration because of the customer. Customers help us to improve ourselves. We might not do the best in the first time, but we will keep improve to be better and better. Thanks to all your compliment, comment and support!

Busy May
May was an encouraging month. We received a lot of orders within this month. Firstly employee from Agilent Technologies ordered over 100 pieces muffins. After few days, they made second order.
Next order was from customers who involved in SPCA (Society For The Prevention Cruelty To Animals). They ordered about 250 pieces muffins for selling in charity fair. Our customers were very happy as the muffins selling good in that charity fair. They felt that their contribution truly helping the SPCA.
Besides, our customer from TNT Express orders our muffins for their company charity events. She ordered three flavours; blueberry, double chocolate and orange. She gave us the feedback that the employees there prefer our blueberry muffins. However, they disliked the poppy seed on the orange muffins. We told her that we can customise for her if she told us earlier. Smilax can always customise the flavour for you if you have any special request!
Another order was 600 pieces mini muffins. It was such a nice experience to bake large quantity of mini muffins. Their aroma and beautiful appearance let us felt that our effort was worth.
The other encouraging things happens on May was we received an email from a customer. She said in her email “My family just loves your muffin, the first I brought your muffin home, last Sat from Lip Sin market. I managed to buy the strawberry, marble, blueberry, orange. My girls loves your muffin very much, especially mini muffin. It so moisture & tasty. Just wonder it for sell , as I plan to order for her & teacher for Teacher day at nursery….” Thank you for all the customer’s supports. Your supports gave us energy and kept us moving forwards to give you best service and products.
And, we would like to do publicity here. We have set up a new stall at Bali-Bali Café (nearby USM). For whom that like our muffins, it is a new place for you to get them. For whom that never try it, you are welcome to have a try. We promise you that you will never regret of trying that delicious muffins.

Special April
We would like to share something happens in this month.
Firstly, a guy called us for a business. He saw our advertisement on the Mudah.my (http://www.mudah.my/Muffins+Healthy+and+Delicious-5632785.htm). He was attracted by the appearance of our muffin and asks for a meet. He was a caterer. He competed with others to be the caterer for SUKOM USM. If he get this business, he needs 5000 pieces muffins. We brought the sample for him. He was very satisfied with our product appearance at the first sight. After tasting it, he even liked it more. He decided to order with us if he get it. What a big challenge for us! 5000 pieces muffins within 24 hours. This is because we want to ensure our muffins are always delivered fresh to the customer. Anyway we still decided to accept the challenge and do it!
We have met up with a few kindergartens to promote our package and our concept. We brought sample for them, they said that the mini muffin was very cute and suitable for kids. One of the kindergartens ordered on the spot. We were so excited.
One of our customers Telly dropped us an email and praised that our muffins were very delicious. Besides, we heard many compliment from different customer. They said our muffins delicious. Someone said Double Chocolate Muffin very gorgeous; a young lady said the Morning Glory very nice and the taste was very unique. She introduced it and also Vanilla Chocolate Chip Muffin to her friends. Thanks for all your support!
One customer from a big company called on Thursday to order muffins. This was the first time we receive phone call order. It was an excited news. Although the quantity was not fulfilling the conditions for delivery service, we still try to make it. We always considered our customer desire and need even beyond the rules.
The other good news is we have set up a second stall at Batu Maung Kopitiam. It was at the same row as OCBC bank. Hooray, more people have chance to try our product. We really wish you like it and give us feedback. We are ready to improve and provide more delicious muffins.
And, we sell our muffin occasionally nearby the primary school. We get positive response from the kids and parents as well. We wish the muffin can refill the kid’s energy and happiness after studying for the whole day.
What a special April for us; full of excitement, challenges and delightful!

Our Life
Our business day for this week is Mon-Wed at Batu Maung and Thurs-Fri at Yee Hong Food court.
What we do every day? We baked muffin in the morning while listening to radio. There were a lot of works to do; preparation, mixing, scooping, baking, cleaning, weighing for the next day material. It was not an easy job. Every day we are doing the same things. After all, we have to develop new product, meet up customer to promote our product or package, think of new promotion. Sometimes, we felt monotonous in doing all the works. Thus, we have to always remember our original intention. Nothing begins easily, a lot of difficulties and obstacles have to face.
Some customer thought we were doing charity. It may due to the message board. May be it is quite unique and no people doing so. We just hope the board can play the role as your mental energy bar. Sometimes, a sentence can change your whole day’s mood.
Our muffin of this week was Orange muffin. It is a special muffin due to its spongy and extra soft texture. It contains orange zest to give you a strong fragrant flavour and poppy seed to give you some crunchiness on its soft base. And, you will never forget its nice orange flavor.
One of our junior from USM approached our stall. He praised for what we did and bought some muffins. We appreciate his support and hope we can motivate more people dare to dream and fight for it.
Besides that, we went into kindergarten to promote our special kindergarten package (for more detail please go to http://www.smilax.com.my/kindergarten-packages). We explained to them that we not only sell muffin but also wish to deliver the environmental awareness to the next generation. We really feel that our mother earth needs us to do something.
We are proud of what we are doing now and we will do the continuous improvement. We wish you can find the meaning in your life and enjoy it too.

Our Customers and New Stall
About our business and customer we met, what happened this week?
This week we set up our stall at Batu Maung on Tuesday and Wednesday. Muffin of the week was Morning Glory. Oh…a nice name. What is that? Check it from http://www.smilax.com.my/products/morning-glory.
People bought it mostly because of its low fat content. We only baked small quantity of the Morning Glory, one of the customer can’t get it and quite annoyed about that. We did explain to her that we only sell fresh muffin, so we need to control the quantity to ensure the quality we deliver to every customer. Then she asked us to keep for her for the next day. We appreciate her support and remind her to order beforehand.
The other loyal customer is a guy (we didn’t know his name), he came frequently to buy the muffins. He will buy blueberry muffins surely. The most touching thing was he came here just for the muffins.
And, the other two customers were working in Motorola (recognized by their batik uniform). I still remembered the first time they bought. They were in their car after lunch. One of them came down from the car hesitating, and then he bought two pieces double chocolate muffins. From the day onwards, they bought double chocolate muffin almost every time they were having lunch here. So, we really hope that you will give yourself a chance to try our muffins; we know that you will like it because of our sincerity to give you the best muffins. Just have a try, don’t hesitate.

On first day, the selling went slow at the beginning. When we were going to tidy up everything and went back, 1st customer came, 2nd, 3rd, we manage to sell all the muffin. Hooray, we were so happy! The last two customers were the workers there. Since it was the first day, they were quite supportive. They bought a lot. Thanks to them.
People at the hawker stall quite nice. They gave us advice regarding the technique to attract more customers. The economy rice aunty asked us change to a much middle side of the place, so people can see us clearer.
We will keep going with our plan. We wish our business can be success.

Our First Stall Experience
Hi friends,
Found our blog not updated? Don’t worry, we will update it from now because we plan to share our life experience with you. It is also as a diary for every single step we move forward. It’s never easy for a new company in its beginning. Smilax is not an exception. We face difficulties and unexpected challenges. Just like kite flying, it cannot fly without wind. Strong wind will make it unstable. After flying up, it will stable and flying gracefully on the sky.
We set up our very first stall at Batu Maung on Wednesday, 10th March 2010, around 11.00am. With a brand new bright-coloured streamer (the size made us worry in the beginning, too big, we thought), with a few baskets of freshly baked muffins, with a message board and with two youthful girls (that’s us!!!).
The weather was hot. We kept sweating ceaselessly. Many people came to have their meal. Everyone came nearer our stall will have a glance at our product. Some said : “Come back later”. Some said : “Oh, look nice”.
Although we are just having a small stall, we bring out our company spirit (to cheer up people every day). This is the reason for the message board. It is always at the corner to motivate or inspired people around us. We put different idioms or meaningful sentences everyday on it. We wish it can cheer you up or replenish your heart with energy when you are facing problems in your company or life.
It was a memorial week for the smilaxans. We were anxious and worry about everything, such as did we give the correct change? Did our smile friendly enough? Did our hair tidy….?
We felt grateful to start our first stall over there. Everyone in the stall is nice. They help promoting our muffins. There are very supporting. They bought a lot from us and gave good comment.
Happy news to share is we sold good. Although people bought it might be out of curiosity or attracted by the appearance of the muffins, we still felt happy. With the positive motivation we gained, we will improve and develop more types of muffin to you!
